Risk Officer Game (2018)

Risk Officer was a game created to help teach risk officers at a financial institution about balancing risk with other departmental goals like growth, profitability, marketing and legal issues.

Each module covers a different financial product. Players get to craft their own rule sets on how to create lending standards and terms for those products. They were able to consult with other departments before making their decisions. Each module would then show the portfolio performance and the default rate. Players would get a chance to course correct using real world tools made available for each product. While the main goal was to get a low default rate, players also needed to meet other department's benchmarks in order to calibrate a perfect lending portfolio.

My Role

I worked closely with the SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) on crafting a simulation that would teach the core trade-offs Risk Officers needed to know when structuring, modifying and selling loans.

The Importance of SMEs

It was amazing having such support from the SMEs. Having them play an active part in building up the games and also sharing in their passion really helped the project. Good communication with others is key for any good design and it is something that I am continually trying to improve on.
